Facing a nemesis.
In history, there are many examples where the good guys have beaten their nemesis — David vs. Goliath, Batman vs. Joker, Perry the Platypus vs. Dr. Doofenshmirtz.
The West Jefferson High School football team has one more hurdle on their way to a Division VI State Finals appearance — Coldwater. The Cavaliers are the defending state champs and have their eye on repeating. West Jeff plans to ruin a second straight victory party as they defeated defending regional champion Fort Frye last week.
WEST JEFFERSON and COLDWATER – 7pm Saturday at Piqua
On Saturday, the Region 23 champion Roughriders (13-1) will face Region 24 champ Cavaliers (12-2). You can listen to this game live thru great coverage by our friends at ReadyFM (105.1).
Last week against Fort Frye, WJ did it through the air and on defense. The Roughriders look to have all facets of their squad clicking for coach Shawn Buescher.
On offense, West Jeff will rely on the arm of Tyler Buescher who is approaching the 4,000 yard mark on the season to go along with 37 TDS. MJ Book has been on the receiving end of 22 of those scoring tosses, as well as 1,400 of the yards. On the ground, Hayden Salyer boasts just over 1,200 yards.
Defensively, the Roughriders have punished the opposition — particularly in the playoffs. Leading tacklers for West Jeff are Garrett Higgins, Johnathan Rickenbacker and Ethan Hostetler. What has been really impressive for WJ has been their tackles for loss. Asher Wilson (16), has led the way followed by Canyon Schneider and Jarrett Simmons, also with double digits.
Coldwater has a balanced offensive attack that is led by running back Isaac Fullenkamp’s 16 TDs and the close to 2,800 yards in the air by QB Reece Dellinger. The Cavalier defense has given up less than seven points a game in their last three playoff contests.
