Greenon excels against Golden Eagles on both sides of the ball

SPRINGFIELD — Rainy days and Fridays sometimes get me down.

The perfectly angelic voice of Karen Carpenter famously lamented about precipitation at the beginning of the week.

Things were different, however, for the Madison-Plains High School football team. It was indeed rainy, but it was a Friday. A Friday, unfortunately, when they ran into a talented Greenon High School team that was on a mission.

The host Knights dominated on both sides of the ball and registered a 49-0 blanking of the visiting Golden Eagles.

The Madison-Plains offense could not get anything going as Greenon did not allow the Golden Eagles to move the ball past the 40 yard line all evening.

The star for the Knights was quarterback Kaden Wooten. The Greenon signal-caller accounted for a number of his team’s touchdowns with one on the ground and at least three through the air.

Greenon held a 29-0 lead after the opening quarter, and they carried that to the intermission. It became a running clock as soon as the Knights tallied their first points of the second half.

Madison-Plains looks to finish the season in winning fashion as the Golden Eagles host Cedarville next Friday in Week Ten.
