URBANA – The climb continues to go up.
The London High School football team had a hard time early in the season of getting traction to follow their mantra of ‘Keep Climbing’ as they opened with a pair of losses.
Last week they got in the win column against Marion-Franklin, and that trend continued Friday as they traveled to Urbana and took care of the (ironically) host Hillclimbers 55-20.
The Red Raiders continued their upward ascent by featuring their ground game.
Freshman Noah Sollars opened the scoring with a eight yard power scoring run. He was followed by LHS teammates Sean Johns and Isaiah Jones who each tallied short touchdowns on the ground by the end of the second quarter.
London completed their first half shutout (28-0) as Red Raider Jake Payne returned a punt for a score with just 51.6 seconds remaining before the break.
It was the Jones brothers who hit pay dirt next for London. First senior Isaiah slammed in from five yards out, and then (following an Urbana TD) sophomore Zack took off on a 34 yard touchdown scamper.
Although the Hillclimbers tried to get back in to it with a pair of late touchdowns, they were each answered impressively with scoring scampers from Sollars – first for 84 yards, and then 70.
The Red Raiders seem to be hitting their stride as they prepare to host Graham next Friday for Homecoming.
