The write stuff.

Back in the Spring, then-high school seniors were given the opportunity to apply for scholarships offered by the Madison County Republican Women’s Club. Seniors from throughout Madison County were asked to submit a 500 word essay addressing one of the following topics:

  • The Importance of Voting: What Democracy Means to Me
  • What Republican Woman has Influences My Life

According to organizers, student names and schools were hidden prior to the committee reviewing the essays. In the end, among the number of applicants, four were chosen to receive the $500.00 scholarships:

  • Emily Bennett – London High School
  • Victoria Bennett – London High School
  • Macy Burchett – Madison-Plains High School
  • Cory Hart – West Jefferson High School

Although the recipients were notified at their individual schools’ senior award ceremonies in May, the winners were not gathered together to be honored until August 6. It was held at Revive Church and hosted by Lacey Smith. Each recipient had the chance to share their winning essays with those on hand. Due to COVID-19 precautions, the gathering included only the winners, their parents, the RWC Scholarship, RWC officers, and State Senator Bob Hackett.

In addition to providing scholarships, when possible, the RWC has monthly meetings with political Republican speakers, such as the Governor, First Lady, State Senators, State Representatives, Regional Central Committee Representatives, and Commissioners.  They participate/volunteer in community charity events, political fund raisers, such as golf outings, candidate meet and greets, parades, and help set up, support, and provide literature at the Republican tents at public events. Also they will be operating the Republican Headquarters in downtown London starting in September. Political candidate signs and literature will be available at 3 South Main, London.
